Three very talented students from St Benedict’s School have recently been presented with their REACT Foundation’s Post 16 Award.
The awards are designed to encourage West Cumbrian students to think about a career in engineering, with REACT offering bursaries to students intending to study STEM subjects at University and Sixth Form.
Mrs Kelso, Assistant Headteacher comments:
“We are delighted that the hard work and outstanding achievements of our pupils are recognised and look forward to seeing them successful in pursuing their STEM courses in September. Well done.”
Kai Savage from Year 13 is currently studying for his A-Levels at St Benedict’s, and has been provisionally accepted to study Chemistry at Oxford University in September.
Kai was runner up for the University award and will be awarded £1000 when he takes up his University place in September.
Rhys Jackson and Alfie Taylor from Year 11, both were awarded the Year 12 award and will be awarded £200 when they take up their A level studies in September.
Mrs Hannan, Head of Year 11 at St Benedict’s said:
“I am immensely proud of Rhys and Alfie’s achievement, both students justly deserve the Year 12 award. Their diligence and perseverance truly embody the school spirit. They have done themselves, their families and the school very proud.”
There are a number of REACT Foundation Year 11 prizes of £200 available for West Cumbrian students. To be in with a chance of winning a bursary, the students needed to complete a short application form.
The object of the charity is to encourage West Cumbrian students to study an engineering or engineering related degree at university.
The bursaries were awarded at REACT’s Annual Celebration evening at The Beacon earlier in the month.
