Miss Bennett has recently interviewed our Sixth Form student, Sophie Roberts about her single release.
Hi Sophie, can you introduce yourself to anyone who doesn’t know you?
I’m Sophie, 17, and studying Performing Arta, English Language, English Literature and an EPQ. In my spare time I dance and have singing lessons. I also play piano and guitar.
You are very musical. Does it run in the family?
No! I got in to music as we had a guitar and piano teacher at primary and did guitar in Y3. When I left primary I started piano lessons and then singing lessons
Who is your musical inspiration?
Shania Twain or Taylor Swift. I think they are 2 of the first people to cross genres and when people told them they couldn’t do it, they did anyway and pulled it off!
How did the single come about?
A family friend writes songs. He played the instrumental of one in the car and asked me to record a demo. We did that and then he asked me to record the actual song for release.
How did you react when he asked you to record it and then you found out it was going to be released?
I was nervous as to how the release was going to go but proud if myself as I didn’t have the confidence to do anything like that before.
What have your family and friends said?
I didn’t tell most of my friends or family until it was released and I got lots of nice messages from everyone.
How has the release gone so far?
I’ve gained over 150 new listeners on Spotify since the release.
So what’s next for you?
I have a gig as a support act. I have only performed once before and it was spur of the moment. My gig us 1st Dec at Keekle Village Hall and I will be doing some covers as well as my single. I’m excited as I haven’t done anything like this before but I am also secretly terrified!
Do you will release another single?
I am not sure, but I am open to it.
Sophie’s single, The Little Things, is available to stream now on all major platforms including Spotify and Apple Music.
