Earlier this term, one of our Year 10 students competed in the North West Regional Final of the Springboard FutureChef competition in St Helens.

Kayce D qualified after winning the school heat, and had spent time before the competition preparing and being mentored by Jack Bond from Cottage in the Wood.

Mr Boal from St Benedicts, accompanied her to the competition which was held at St Helen’s College in February. He said:

“We are all proud of Kayce’s efforts in the competition, she did so well to get to the regional final. She came up against some fantastic pupils from school all around the Northwest area.”

“Special mention was made on the day of Kayce’s butchery skills that impressed the judges.”

Kayce worked hard to be ready for the day in St Helens and gained some valuable experience of working in the industry. Unfortunately on this occasion she didn’t win, but it has been an amazing achievement for her.

Mr Boal continued:

“It has been a pleasure to work with both Kayce and Jack Bond outside of the normal school day. I’m really looking forward to seeing what next year’s competition brings.”
