Top performing students from school were honoured at a special awards ceremony that was held earlier this month.
The annual PE Awards Evening took part on Thursday 4th July, with students attending with their parents and families to pick up their trophies and awards.
The ceremony highlighted talented students from all year groups, who have excelled in PE during the school year.
Awards handed out on the night included Sports Performers of the Year, Sporting Excellence and Team of the Year.
Team of the Year was a tough decision this year, due to the fact that St Benedict’s had four teams become County Champions throughout the season. The nominations were Year 7 Boys Rugby Team, Year 11 Girls’ Football Team, Year 10 Boys Rugby Team and the Year 11 Boys Football Team!
The eventual winners were both the Year 11 Boys & Girls Football teams, who both had excellent seasons this year winning their County Cups!
Another notable winner was Chelsea Callander, who was awarded Sports Personality of the Year. Chelsea is an outstanding & gifted sports person, who is pursuing a career in football alongside studying for her GCSE’s. She currently plays for Sunderland FC, and was handed her award at the Year 11 Prom due to being busy with football on the night of the awards!
Tony Harrison, Head of PE commented:
“We’ve had an excellent year here at St Benedict’s, and it was wonderful to be able to celebrate our talented students in this way. We are very proud of each and every one of them!”
